The Milwaukee chapter had a number of events on or around St.
Patrick's Day in 2009. These included our March meeting and 49th
birthday; our parade; our Post Parade Party, and our
Mass in honor of St. Patrick.

Our March 5, 2009 meeting was our 49th birthday celebration.
The meeting was held at the Irish Cultural and Heritage Center, 2133
West Wisconsin Avenue, Milwaukee, at 7:00 PM. The Irish honorees for 2009 were sashed. i They are Chuck Ward, Irishman of the Year, Kathy Donovan, Irish Rose, and Bill Sherry, Parade Marshal. The Shamrock Club Color Guard Pipes and Drums entertained with a concert to start the evening.

2009 Parade Was a Grand Success!!!
The 2009 St. Patrick's Day Parade took place at our original home along Wisconsin Avenue. March 14 will saw the Shamrock Club's return to Wisconsin Avenue for the seventh time in over two decades. This is the largest St. Patrick's Day Parade in Wisconsin, and in 2009, was the largest parade in Wisconsin, with 165 units and 135,000 spectators.
Parade Route
The 43rd Annual Shamrock Club of Wisconsin St. Patrick's Parade
stepped off at Noon from 3rd and Wisconsin in front of the Grand Avenue Mall. The parade proceeded east to Plankinton, north on Plankinton to Kilbourn, west on Kilbourn to Old World Third Street, north on Old World Third Street to Juneau, east on Juneau to Water Street, south on Water Street. 145 units were a part of the largest parade in Wisconsin.

Bus Service For the Day
The Shamrock Club offered bus service from the ICHC to the parde route until 4 p.m. Thanks to all who availed themselves of this service. Parade pickup and dropoff spots were at the Trinity Three Irish Pubs, Edison and Juneau; Mader's Restaurant, Old World Third Street and Highland, and Mo's Irish Pub, Plankinton and Wisconsin.

43rd Annual Parade - Downtown Milwaukee
We had the greatest parade in Wisconsin, with 145 units marching. The entire event will took about one hour and fifteen minutes, with brisk marching the course of the day.
The downtown parade has been the largest parade of any type in Wisconsin for the past five years. Since its return to downtown Milwaukee, the Shamrock Club and Westown have produced the greatest family friendly event of the season. We will had five Irish dance schools, pipe bands, clowns, drill teams, marching bands, and most Irish organizations in the greater Milwaukee area. It is a spectacle to behold, and a very Irish display of our honor to St. Patrick.
Thanks to all who joined us on the greatest day of the year. And thanks for being a part of Milwaukee's Irish history and present. And remember - Everyone is Irish for St. Patrick's Day!!!

Due to the difficult economic times, the Shamrock Club waived its admission fee for the 2009 Post Parade Party. This was done in order to allow all families a chance to enjoy St Patrick's Day events.
The annual Post Parade Party took place at the Irish Cultural and Heritage Center, 2133 West Wisconsin Avenue from 1 p.m. until 6 p.m. Officially, doors open at 12:30 p.m. This is Milwaukee's biggest parade family celebration. There were four stages of entertainment, and four dance schools, (three Irish and one Scottish), six bands, and a children's show. Food and beverages were served. Opening the day off in the Hallamor will be the Shamrock Club Color Guard Pipes and Drums.. The entertainment was first class, the crowds were amazing.
The Post Parade Party featured these groups and performers: Green Tea, Blarney, Athas, Celtic Keep, Ian Gould and Steel Bonnets.
The Shamrock Club Color Guard, Pipes and Drums opened the Hallamor performances at 1.15 pm. Blarney and the Caledonian Scottish Dancers performed upstairs, and Parlor B featured athas, Celtic Keep, Ian Gould and Steel Bonnets. Green Tea had a rollicking fresh performance, Cashel Dennehy, Rince Nia and Trinity Dance Schools all presented dynamic dance shows in the Hallamor.
The party ran 1-6 pm at the Irish Cultural and Heritage Center , 2133 West Wisconsin. Food and beverages were served. The party was a part of the Shamrock Club's events on March 14, including the Downtown Saint Patricks Parade Milwaukee.

The 24th Annual Special Mass To Honor St. Patrick took place on Saturday, March 14, 2009, at St. Patrick's Church, 723 South 7th at Washington Street, Milwaukee. The celebrant for the 2009 Mass was Milwaukee Bishop William Callahan. The Shamrock Club Choir, under the direction of Bob Harrold, sang the liturgy. The Shamrock Club Color Guard Pipes and Drums piped in the colors and stood as honor guard for the Mass. There will be a sign reader for hearing impaired. There will be readings and songs in Irish and English.

Please contact Chuck and Bonnie McLaughlin about donating for the purchase of flowers for the Mass each year. Your name and the name of those who you are donating for will be listed in the Mass program. The flowers will also be used at the Easter Rising Mass on April 12 at the ICHC.
Easter Rising Mass April 12 at ICHC
The Shamrock Club's annual Easter Rising Mass will take place at the Irish Cultural and Heritage Center on Sunday, April 12, 2009 at 10 am. That Mass is said in honor of the members of the Irish revolution who took part in the Easter Week, 1916, Rising. Father Terry Brennan, S. J., will celebrate the Mass.
A Continental breakfast will take place after the Mass in Parlor B.
Annual Scholarship Raffle Drawing
At April Meeting
During February, March and early April we sold our tickets for the Shamrock Club Scholarship Raffle. The prizes in 2009 included: a round trip and land package to Castledaly Manor in Ireland; , a Belleek China Vase; $400 Golf package to Brown Deer Golf Course; a stay at the County Clare Irish Inn in Milwaukee, stay at St. Brendan Inn in Green Bay; a night stay at The Irish Cottage in Galena, IL; Silver earrings from Blarney Imports. Tickets are $5 each or 3 for $10.
We awarded four $500 scholarships for college level students who qualified in 2008. In 2007 we gave $2500 to five winners. In 2005, we gave away four scholarships.
